Welcome to ejcjs

Special Announcement
In 2011 theelectronic journal of contemporary japanese studies celebrates ten years of publishing open access research and writing on Japan and its people.
We would like to wish a sincere and heartfelt thanks to all contributors, editors, reviewers and, most of all, readers, for your continued support and encouragement.

This is the home page of the electronic journal of contemporary japanese studies. We hope that you will find this site useful, informative, interesting, and challenging and that you may be stimulated into making a contribution of your own.

ejcjs is an international academic journal in the Social Sciences and Humanities that publishes research and scholarly writing on all issues related to contemporary Japan. The journal adopts a multi-disciplinary stance in the hope that it will contribute to a deeper understanding of Japan and Japanese people and that it will, consequently, enrich our understanding of the totality of human experience. We encourage submissions in all areas of academic endeavour that have contemporary Japan as their focus but that also relate Japan to broader developments elsewhere. Contributions are posted as and when we receive, review, and edit them.

ejcjs is committed to working towards sustainable living. Our editorial policy is to offer access free of charge and only over the internet. ejcjs operates an unusual publishing model in that, in addition to there being no charge for access, we do not charge administrative fees to our contributors. Our journal is financed on the basis of the goodwill provided by our readers, contributors, and editorial board, and any other benefits gained by internet publishing. For more about this and how you can contribute, please click here. If you would like to receive updates about recently published contributions then please register for ejcjs news by e-mail or by RSS feed.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our site and we hope to be hearing from you again sometime soon.
