The electronic journal of contemporary japanese studies is a scholarly journal distributed free of charge to anyone with access to the internet. It is for educational and research purposes only. Copyright of the text of all articles, discussion papers, and reviews in ecjcs is retained by their respective authors. Copyright of all ejcjs graphics and logos is owned by the electronic journal of contemporary japanese studies. The copyright owner of the content of each page is stated at the base of that page.

Citations and references to, as well as short quotations from, material contained in ejcjs are encouraged and can be freely made. Although we discourage the use of paper, printing of material from ejcjs, such as an entire article, can be made without permission by anyone who is using the material offline, but only in cases where the material is used for educational or research purposes and no charge is made for its onward distribution. Permission must be obtained from the general editor for any online reproduction of ejcjs material other than citations, references, and short quotations, even if such reproduction is not for commercial purposes. In all cases where content from ejcjs is reproduced reference must be clearly made to the material's original source.

In return for copyright remaining with the authors, and since the editors of ejcjs work at no financial gain to themselves, all typographical errors and errors of omission or fact that are contained in the text of articles, discussion papers, conference and seminar papers, and reviews are the sole responsibility of the authors. In addition, ejcjs bears no responsibility for either the accuracy or style of any works or websites cited in or linked to ejcjs pages.
